Love Avebury! We have some American cousins visiting next week and will certainly take them there. I enjoyed doing some oil paintings of the standing stones at the end of last year. I give them to Oxfam where they sell - they don't ask for much, but it's nice to think that people are benefitting.

So sorry to hear about the sudden departure of Tybalt. I'm always amazed how these little creatures become such a part of our lives. Occasionally I go out to salute those we've lost and rested in the woods out back. Tybalt's distant brothers and sisters welcome him and I hoist one to them all.

The reason train companies do it that way - other than just to be c**ts to everyone - is so they don't have to pay for cancelled journeys.

It's an utterly shitbag move, and I've seen them do it a few times now. It's the only motive I can see for it, too - as you say, they know well before the train departs that services have been cancelled, it's just to protect them from paying out on cancelled/late journeys.

Of course all those fields where the river has overflowed are floodplains, and thus there for a reason. (Well, have happened for a reason) And indeed the grazing will be improved next year for having so much water around now.

But yeah, it's pretty impressive.

And the photos in Bath illustrate the rise very well.
